wintersong
by sarah mclachlan
the best voice in all of canadaland returns from a brief hiatus with the best holiday album of this generation. her ethereal voice and trademark instrumentations wake up many-a-sleepy christmas song. "i'll be home for christmas" has never sounded as accurate: a song about longing for the ones you love at xmas. her version of "the first noel/mary mary" could easily be on any one of her standard releases. it pounds and soars with an energy that's refreshing. the original "wintersong" and her cover of gordon lightfoot's "song for a winter's night" help set this collection apart as not-just-another christmas cd. even if you have christmas music, you'll enjoy this. happy listening.
